Explaining the Many Types of Double-Sided Tapes

Whether talking about transportation, securing some appliances, electronics or something else, one of the most commonly used products for bonding are the double sided tapes. Although used in households, these tapes are mainly used for commercial purposes like retail and some projects with a strong display component.

Simply put, when it comes to tapes, the high bond double sided tape is the first choice thanks to the two adhesive sides and to the ability to glue things like nothing else can. Generally speaking, there are two types of them available on the market, ones with thick bonding system and those with thin bonding system. The former ones are usually stronger and better as they can bond some unusual, highly patterned and textured surfaces, while the latter have a foam carrier layer and have less bonding strength. The thing both of these double sided tape types have in common is the adhesive, it can be either acrylic or rubber. According to manufacturers, both of these adhesives are good, however, the rubber ones are more affordable but they are not appropriate for long-term applications.

Acrylic adhesives, on the other hand, might be more pricey but are stronger and can age much better. They are also more resistant to chemicals and consequently, they won't react that easily to light or sun exposure.

When it comes to their application, a rule you need to follow is to clean the surface with alcohol and water prior the tape application as this is the only way to be sure that the double-sided tape will stick best. Whether you need a tape like that for using it on steel, metal, cardboard, paper, acrylic paint or wood, you can be sure that it can secure and bond in the best possible way.

Out of all types of double-sided tapes on the market, the most popular and commonly used one is the double sided vhb tape. VHB means very high bond tape as it is extremely durable. Although pretty easy to apply, the double sided vhb tape tape is quite strong and can be used in numerous industries for different applications.

The adhesive transfer tape is a tape without backing material, and to stop sticking to itself it is stored within two silicone layers of release liner. This type of tape acts like a double-sided tape as the whole tape is adhesive.

The fingerlift type of tape is designed for certain manufacturing processes. It has a thin layer extended to the tape's width which allows for increased ease of use and great batch production techniques.

The foam tape is a thick type of tape that is suitable for bonding two uneven, textured or irregular surfaces. This type of tape can be used for joining, mounting and for some technical uses for tape.
