Masticating Juicer: More Than Juicing

Masticating juicer is a type of juicer that uses only one auger, rotating at 80-100 RPM, to chew up the fiber of the fruits and vegetables. By crushing any fruit or vegetable to very small pieces, the juicer is meanwhile squeezing out all of their juice. It expels the pulp through a separate outlet. This method of preparing juice is no different to a slow juicing or cold press method.

The masticating juicer works much slower than centrifugal juicer, that's why it extracts much more enzymes, vitamins, fiber and trace minerals. However, the slow yet efficient working process of this juicer is an important consideration when buying a juicer.

The masticating juicer uses a single auger or gear, which is a drilling device that uses a rotating screw blade that acts as a screw conveyor to remove the pulp. What remains of the fruits and vegetables is then collected and strained through wire mesh. With the auger rotating, the inserted fruits and vegetables are crushed and squeezed against the juicer's outside wall. The filter (or wire mesh) holds the pulp, while the juice is forced out of the masticating juicer.
